State law permits mining as close as 50 feet from the property line. However, as part of our 50-year lease agreement with the landowner, KBDJ has agreed to set aside a much larger buffer than the state allows. This voluntary buffer zone is where we are conducting habitat preservation and enhancement activities to meet the requirements of the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Corporate Wildlife Habitat Certification/International Accreditation Program.
